Lord Of The Flies P. 11-21 Af Steffen Og Casper Stoltze

1. Continue your characterisation of Ralph and Piggy. Begin characterising Jack - remember to focus on behaviour and not so much looks.

Ralph:
Begins to step up to the leader role (natural leader). Show’s that he is smart, by blowing in the conch to gather people. Takes more shape. Begins to take the more demanding decisions. Is more the tactical type, wants to build shelters, find food, and think of the future. (For him it’s about the thoughts you do, that makes you)
Piggy:
Becomes the sidekick. Helps Ralph in what he does, and goes round and asking people about their names. Still staying in the back, wants to be a bit neutral by not voting in the start. He’s the “cheerleader” (For him it’s about safety and team spirit, that EVERYONE is a part of the group incl. himself (Doing this for to get accept).
Jack:
Sees himself as a leader. Sees himself as very important. Are the leader of the choir/gang. Is a man/boy of action who wants to make an army and have some hunters. Are acting out childhood dreams. He’s argument for being leader is that he can sing the C sharp (For him it’s what you can do that decides how good you are).

2. Comment upon the voting (why do this?) and the role of the conch.

The voting begins, because of Jack Merridew thinks that he is the natural leader of the rabble.
The conch makes the outcome of the voting. It shows that he’s got the power (To gather the people).
Ralph is the man who brought harmony in chaos. (Ralph is now like one of the ancient gods), the mob is now worshiping him.

3. Compare what you have read so far to the clips from the film

Until now have the book and the clips have not been similar, for one: Ralph does not have fair hair.
They have a grown up already from the start and Piggy are calling he’s auntie for granny.
There are not the same symbols in the clips, that there are in the book.
The Book = Lord Of The Flies.
The Clips = Lord Of The Mosquitoes.
