Stone Sour: Through the Glass

Through the glass by Stone Sour

·- Corey Taylor is the lead vocalist in the band, which he personally formed in 1992, Stone Sour. He was raised by a single mother, and was first introduced to classic rock by his grandfather, which he still indulges. Corey joined Slipknot in 1997, so he is singing in both bands.

Persons who are interested in classic rock with feelings written implicit in the text.

·- The language in the song text is speech and is affected by contractions, which are very characteristic for song text, because they are easier to sing, and gives a natural flow to the melody.

The mood in the song is melancholic, because it gives the text a deeper meaning, and connects the text with the text.

- “Through the glass”, “how do you feel?” “Stars that shine to you” and “Stars that lie to you.”

The theme in the text is self-promotion. In our humble opinion we think that the text is about stars, who promote themselves, to something which they aren’t. “Looking at you through the glass,” so we, as viewers, are watching the stars through the glass of a television. “How do you feel” that is when the stars think too much about their appeal and what others think, and not caring about what they feel themselves. “And while you’re outside looking in, describing what you see, remember what you’re staring at is me.” So we, as viewers, are watching the stars, suveil them, if you will, and discussing them, they are actually suffering, from the downsides of being famous. “Before you tell yourself, it’s just a different scene, remember it’s just different from what you’ve seen.” So the stars are denying the facts and convincing themselves that this is just a different scene/scenario, but they know different. So it’s very “plactic fantastic.” Connecting that quote to the video, we can see that the stars are being pulled away by rodies like they are cardboards, so it’s all just a big made-up scene. “And it’s the staaaars, they shine to you.. And it’s the staaars that lie to you.” So they shine to you through the media, but they are fake and platic, so in the end they are lying to you, about themselves. So they are fitting what the people wants.
