The story is about a family, who gets another son, that they name Nick. Nick was the mother’s favorite, but in the age of seventeen, he is killed in an accident moped and a lorry. Then the family had to decide to if the respirator should be turned of, and if his organs should be donated to people in need. They decide to turn the respirator off and give the heart away. Mark then finds out that it was given to a 40-year-old woman.

Themes of the story:

Grief

Family relations

Death

Life

Undying love

Setting:

A realistic story, which easily could take place.

It takes place on a farm, on the road and in the end at the hospital.

The text describes the way an old English farm works, and how the social environment was at the time.

The setting isn’t very important for our understanding of the characters.

Narration:

The narrator of this story is Nick’s youngest older brother Mark, and he is telling the story as a third-person narrator. We think that mark is telling the story as a 22 year-old. He is telling the story as a restricted narrator as he only knows his own thoughts. He is describing the story.
